Route 692 open to traffic, detour lifted

ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY — As of May 6, a portion of Route 692 (Uzzell Church Road) has reopened to traffic following the early completion of a Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) project to replace the bridge over Champion Swamp in Isle of Wight County.

The work on Route 692 included demolition of the previous bridge and the construction of a new two-lane, single-span, multi-beam girder bridge.

The project, originally scheduled for completion in summer 2024, finished over a month ahead of schedule. Bryant Structures, Inc. began construction on the $1.94 million project in July 2023.
